Ingredients
Rava - 1 cup
Water - 3 cups
Onion - 1
Green chilly - 1
Curry leaves - 1 spring
Oil - 3 tblsp
Mustard - 1 tsp
Urud dal - 1 tsp
Channa dal - 1 tblsp
Hing - generous pinch.
Salt
Preparation
1. Roast rava with 1 tblsp of oil. Roast until nice aroma comes and rava gets good coarse texture.
2. Finely chop onion and slit chilly.
3. Heat 2 tblsp of oil in pan and temper with mustard, urud dal, channa dal, green chilly and curry leaves. Add onion and fry. Add 3 cups of water, hing and salt. Allow to boil.
4.When water is boiling well add roasted rava and in parallel mix well with ladle.Cook in slow flame.
5. Close the pan and cook until water is absorbed and rava is cooked well. Mix well and serve hot with banana and sugar!
Note
1. Its a simple dish for a lazy week end morning breakfast.
2. Two main steps would be to roast rava properly else upma will be sticky.Other one is to mix well while adding rava to boiling water as chances of forming lumps exists.
3. If you are using ready made roasted rava then you can skip first step. Still you can just roast for a min and add hot rava to hot water. It gives good taste!
